2016-17: At the MAAC Championships, set three personal bests. In the 50 freestyle swam a 22.04, in the 100 freestyle clocked in at 49.00, and in the 100 backstroke finished in 55.32. At the Terrier Invitational in November posted a time of 1:50.32 in the 200 freestyle. His 100 backstroke time ranks ninth fastest in program history.  

Before Fairfield: While at the Pennington School, was given the William E. Long Award for being the senior boy that made the greatest contribution to the school’s athletics. He was team captain of both swimming and water polo. The swim team was a three-time state champion during his time, while the water polo team was state champion twice. Nelson holds records for his club swim team in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, and 200 medley relay. His school records include the 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay. He was also a 2015 Long Course Zone finalist and a 2016 Junior Olympics finalist.

Personal: Son of John and Charlene Nelson… Has one brother, Patrick (20) who plays Baseball at Lafayette… His father played ice hockey and lacrosse at St. Vincent’s… Major is Communications.
