DELAND, Fla. – Gavin Wallace threw his first career nine-inning complete game shutout leading the Stags to their second-straight win against the reigning Atlantic Sun Champions Stetson as the Stags took the second game in the series by a 6-0 final. Offensively, Troy Scocca had the biggest blast for the Stags connecting on the team’s first home run of the spring and Kevin Radziewicz drove in two as Fairfield won back-to-back games for the first time this year.

Wallace allowed seven hits and struck out a career-high nine batters in picking up his third win of the season. Stetson (7-14) tallied more than one hit in just one inning, which came in the seventh when they tallied three. However, Wallace was able to work out of trouble between a ground ball double play and a line drive out. Besides that frame, the Hatters did not strand more than one runner on base as Wallace was able to keep the offense in check. The nine-inning shutout lowered his ERA to 2.25 this year.

For the second-straight game, the Stags (5-9) jumped out on the Hatters by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. This time, the Stags got the benefit of a run scoring hit when Radziewicz took the first pitch he saw in the at-bat up the middle scoring two runs, making the score 3-0.

Radziewicz worked his way into another run in the third. After fouling off two pitches with a 2-2 count, Radziewicz was able to ground out to the shortstop and bring in the fourth run of the game.

Scocca capped the scoring by launching the first home run of the year for the Stags in the sixth. His two-run shot to right also brought in Radziewicz and set up the final 6-0 score.

Radziewicz and Jack Gethings tallied multiple hits in the game as both picked up two base knocks. Radziewicz was the team leader driving in three runs.

Fairfield will try for their first series sweep of the year when they conclude the series with Stetson tomorrow at noon.
