Swimming and Diving Falls to Iona

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Swimming and Diving teams fell to Iona on Friday night. The men lost by a score of 208-72 while the women suffered a 155-133 defeat.

For the women’s side, Colleen Young had another strong performance for the Stags. In the 100m breaststroke she placed first with a time of 1:17.55.  Then in the 200m breaststroke claimed the top spot with a time of 2:46.13, and finally placed second in the 200m IM (2:31.36). Kelly Cordes performed just as well with a first place finish and personal best in the 200m freestyle (2:10.51), first place in the 400m freestyle (4:40.55), and second place in the 100m freestyle (1:01.62).

The men’s performance was highlighted by freshmen Phillip Zyskowski and Jordan Rahurahu. Zyskowski earned second place in the 800m freestyle (8:59.45) and third in the 400m freestyle (4:18.74). Rahurahu finished second in the 200m IM (2:15.32) and second in the 200m butterfly (2:11.32).

For the divers, Jane Rice scored a 192.30 in the 1-meter and 233.82 in the 3-meter. Leah Pawelczyk earned a 187.35 in the 1-meter and a 213.75 in the 3-meter. Alex Shabecoff scored a 203.83 in the 1-meter and 193.80 in the 3-meter.

The women are back in action tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. when they host Sacred Heart at the RecPlex Pool.  The men will have a week off before they travel to Middletown to take on Wesleyan and Connecticut College.
