Tennis Sweeps Lafayette on Saturday Evening

FAIRFIED, Conn. - Both Fairfield University tennis teams came out with a win on Saturday evening over the visiting Lafayette Leopards. The men's side picked up a 7-0 victory, while the women won 5-2.

The men earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Anthony Caputo and Jeffrey Rodgers teamed up for a 6-4 win. And in the third spot, Dylan Appel and Ethan Ammon secured a 6-3 decision.

Fairfield swept singles action with staight set victories at all six positions. Brad Orban, Caputo, and Rodgers won in the first three spots. The following spots grabbed wins from Tyler Shibles, Appel, and Peter Colliard

The women also earned the doubles point with victories in the second and third position. Jessica Pil and Emily Lombardi won 6-3, followed by Nicole Aragones and Shelby Vertula with a 6-2 win.

The Stags grabbed four more points in singles action to ensure the match win over the Leopards. Sarah Stuhlmann won at the first spot, 7-6, 6-1. Vertula earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4, followed by straight set wins for Lombardi and Meghan Zimmer in the fifth and sixth spots.

Next time on the courts, Fairfield heads to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph's and Drexel on February 19 and 20.
