Swimming and Diving Complete Day One

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After day one of the 2017 MAAC Championships the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams sit in ninth and seventh place, respectively, in the standings.

The men’s side earned a total of 47 points and trail the overall leader, Canisius, who has 104 points after just one day. The women’s team has a total of 50 points, and Marist leads that side of the action with 74 points.

Day one kicked off with the 200y Medley Relay. The women’s team of Kristin Kunnapas, Colleen Young, Meghan Guinee, and Oreoluwa Cherebin placed seventh with a time of 1:49.94. In the same event, the men grabbed ninth place with the team of Andrew Gormley, Andrew Tavcar, Jordan Rahurahu, and Justin Touve who touched the wall in 1:36.19.

In the 800y Freestyle relay, the women’s quartet of Kelly Cordes, Betsy Powers, Donna Lam, and Cherebin earned a sixth place finish with a time of 7:56.28. In the same relay, the men grabbed seventh behind Rahurahu, Jameson Duncan, Touve, and Phillip Zyskowski who clocked in at 7:00.66.

In diving action, the men competed on the 1-meter boards. Alex Shabecoff qualified for the B-Final after a Prelims score of 149.55. And in the Finals slightly improved with a score of 149.70 to finish 12th.

The second day of action kicks off tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with the 500y Freestyle Prelims.
