Women's Tennis Loses Close Match to UNI

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women’s tennis team lost a close 5-2 decision to the University of Northern Iowa on Wednesday afternoon in Orlando.

Doubles action was tightly contested with Nicole Aragones and Sarah Stuhlmann picking up a 6-4 win at No. 1. In the second spot, Emily Lombardi and Karen McKeough fell by a score of 6-4. At No. 3, the duo of Shelby Vertula / Meghan Zimmer lost in a tie breaker 7-6 to give the Panthers the double point.

In singles action, Aragones and Lombardi earned the two points for Fairfield. In the second spot, Aragones won in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. And in the sixth position, Lombardi pulled out a straight set win, 6-0, 6-4.

The Stags next match is at Saint Peter’s on March 26.
