DELAND, Fla. – Less than 12 hours after the Fairfield University baseball team had their best pitching performance of the season, the Stetson Hatters countered with a shutout of their own. The reigning Atlantic Sun champions rode the arms of the duo Logan Gilbert and Ryan Stark to hurl a five-hit shutout as Fairfield fell 3-0 in the series finale.

Stetson (8-14) scored all three of their runs with two outs, with the first coming in the first inning. After Kyle Dube retired the first two batters that he saw, Mike Spooner broke the scoreless game with a home run to right.

Dube was able to keep Stetson off the scoreboard until the fourth inning when the Hatters took advantage of a Fairfield (5-10) error to plate the second run of the game. Stetson got their final two-out RBI in the seventh when captain Colton Lightner singled home run with a RBI up the middle.

The Stags biggest threat came in the top of the seventh when Fairfield loaded the bases with two outs after back-to-back walks. However, Gilbert was able to get the next batter looking to end the jam.

Kevin Radziewicz and Troy Scocca accounted for four of Fairfield’s five hits as each hitter picked up a pair of base knocks.

The Stags will now return home after 15-straight road games to begin the season and will try and open up play in the newly renovated Alumni Diamond on Tuesday against nationally-ranked St. John’s at 3pm.
