FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Junior attackerBrenna Connolly matched a career-high and led all scorers with seven points in the Fairfield University women’s lacrosse team’s 19-5 win at Siena on Saturday afternoon.
Nine total Stags scored a goal in the contest to match their highest offensive output as they had 19 tallies in the home matchup against Hofstra just one month ago. 10 players had at least one point for Fairfield, six players had at least one assist, and four players recorded hat tricks in the resounding win.
Riley Hellstein jump started the attack for Fairfield with two straight goals to put the visitors up 2-0 early in the game. Connolly and Alex Fehmel made it 4-0 for the Stags before Siena tallied their first score.
In the final 15 minutes of the game, Fairfield put together an 8-3 scoring run to give them a 12-5 lead heading into the break. Over that span, six Stags scored including two goals each from Taylor Mitchell and Scarlett Sulliman, and one goal from Hellstein, Fehmel, Lily Crager, and Connolly.
Fairfield clamped down defensively in the final 30 minutes allowing just five shots and no goals for the remainder of the game. The Stags put seven more in the back of the net in the second half, while both Lauren Martinelli and Bridget Weill registered their first career goals for Fairfield.
The visitors played three goalies in their MAAC opener, with Caleigh O'Connor getting the start while logging 37 minutes and recording two saves. Amy White and Caitlin Bennett split the remaining time with White picking up 2 saves in just about 18 minutes of action.
The Stags will close out non-conference play this week when they head to Central Connecticut State this Wednesday for a 2:00 p.m. game.
