GRASONVILLE, Md. – Eric Austin carded an even-par 72 to lead the Fairfield University men’s golf team in opening round action at the Towson Spring Invitational. The junior shares 10th place on the individual leaderboard through 18 holes at Prospect Bay Golf Course in Grasonville, Md.

Austin sank four birdies to round out his 72, which places him five shots off the pace set by Elon’s Jared Mactas. Mactas sits at 67 (-5) after the first round of play thanks to four birdies and an eagle. The next three Stags on the board – Thomas Urciuoli, Kevin Duncan and Alex Taylor – each posted an opening round 77, while Kellen Jordan was right behind them with a 79. The Stags rank 13th in the team standings after their 303 today, which lands them just two shots out of a tie for seventh place on the cluttered leaderboard.

Fairleigh Dickinson leads the team race with a 287, paced by a second-place 68 (-4) from Nicolas Osorio.

Sunday’s final round from Prospect Bay tees off beginning at 8 a.m. The Stags will hit the links starting at 9:50 a.m.
