FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Led by seven points from senior captain Riley Hellstein, the Fairfield University women’s lacrosse team topped Central Connecticut 12-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

On a day in which she became Fairfield’s all-time leader with 154 draw controls in her career, she also tied a career-high with five assists against the Blue Devils. Two Stags recorded hat tricks on the day with Scarlett Sulliman and Taylor Mitchell tallying three goals each. Olivia Russell had two goals, while Lily Crager and Kathleen Hulseman both scored once. Rounding out the offense, Alex Fehmel and Riley Smith both registered one assist.

The home side was first on the board after scoring just four minutes into the contest. But the Stags scored the next nine in the first half and then three more in the second half for a total of 12 unanswered goals before Central notched their second score.

Mitchell scored first for the Stags and was quickly followed by Hulseman and Hellstein to put Fairfield up 3-1 in the span of three minutes. Sulliman tallied back-to-back scores to give the Stags a four goal advantage. And to close out the half, Crager, Russell, Mitchell, and Sulliman made it 9-1 at the break.

In the second half, the Stags slowed the pace down and controlled the game clock. Russell, Hellstein, and Mitchell all scored once more to bring the scoring total to 12.

For the second game in a row, Fairfield played three keepers. Caleigh O'Connor earned the start and played 35 minutes while making 10 saves. Amy White and Caitlin Bennett split the remaining 25 minutes, allowing just one goal each.

The Stags can now focus on league play as they head to Niagara next for a match up with the Purple Eagles on Saturday, April 1.
