POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Karisa Hughen earned her fifth straight win while Angelina McGuire hit her second homer of the season to help the Fairfield University softball team earn a split at Marist College on Saturday afternoon.

Hughen scattered eight hits in the second game of the twin bill but allowed only one earned run in her seven innings of work to move her overall record to 6-9. McGuire reached three times in the nightcap and in all four plate appearances on the afternoon. She led off the sixth inning with a home run down the right field line to pad Fairfield's lead to 4-1.

The Stags used a pair of hits and an error to put the game's first runs on the scoreboard, plating a pair in the third inning. Rachel Sieber led off with a single and took second base off Rachel Ulzheimer's ground out to first base. Alisha Marshall reached and went second base following an error which allowed Sieber to take third base. Courtney Hankins followed with a two-run double to give the visitors the early lead.

A leadoff walk led to Marist's only run of the game as the Red Foxes scored following Janna Korak's RBI double. Fairfield regained its two-run lead in its next at-bat, a rally started with a walk by McGuire. She eventually scored the run after Sieber lofted a sacrifice fly to left field. McGuire closed out the scoring with her solo home run two innings later.

In the opener, Fairfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a first-inning run. Ulzheimer started the game with a base hit and secured second base when Marshall grounded out. Tori Reed chased home her teammate with a single to center field, spotting the Stags a 1-0 lead.

Marist tied the game in the second inning courtesy of Gabrielle Kelliher's solo home run. The Red Foxes tacked on three more runs when Korak drilled a three-run homer to push the lead to 4-1.

The Stags close out the weekend with a pair of games at Siena College on Sunday afternoon.
