Duncan Leads Stags at Yale Spring Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s golf team took its final swings prior to the 2017 MAAC Championship, hitting the links for two rounds at The Course at Yale on Saturday afternoon. Kevin Duncan’s 151 (+11) led the Stags through the 36-hole tournament.

The Stags’ 10th-place finish slotted them just nine strokes out of fifth in the densely-packed field of 13 teams. Individually, Duncan rode a team-best opening round of 73 (+3) to his 30th-place score in the field of 71 golfers. Alex Taylor (76-76) and Thomas Urciuoli (75-77) were each one shot behind Duncan.

Eric Austin (155) and Alex Ferrante (160) were also a part of the team scoring for the Stags, while Kellen Jordan (163) and Andrew DeMarco (167) competed as individuals.

Tournament host Yale ran away with the team title, beating the field by 20 strokes on their home course with a 569 (+9) after carding the two best rounds of the day at 284 and 285. The Bulldogs were led by individual medalist Will Bernstein, who carded the day’s best round with a 66 on his second trip through the course to post a 139 (-1) and edge Cornell’s Mike Graboyes by one stroke.

The 54-hole 2017 MAAC Championship from Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. begins on Friday, April 21.
