Stags in Eighth after Opening Round at MAAC Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Madison Banas sank a pair of birdies as a part of her opening round to lead the Fairfield University women’s golf team at the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Stags are currently eighth on the team leaderboard after the first of three rounds this weekend at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.

Banas (+14) currently sits in 25th place in the 45-golfer field, one stroke ahead of Danielle Dalessandro and two shots in front of Taylor Rogers and Jackie Schofield. Arianna Palmeri rounds out the quintet of Stags to hit the links today. With a 341 as a team, Fairfield is a comfortable 70 strokes in front of ninth-place Salle and trails seventh-place Niagara by nine shots.

Quinnipiac currently leads the field by one stroke after a 320 in the opening round. The Bobcats are one shot ahead of Monmouth after 18 holes of play. Kristen Bromley of Siena and Paige Fujihara of Albany set the pace individually with matching rounds of 78 (+6). The top 13 on the individual leaderboard are currently separated by just three shots.

The Stags will be back on the course tomorrow for second round action from Lake Buena Vista. The 54-hole championship concludes on Sunday with the action set to broadcast live on ESPN3 beginning at 10 a.m.
