LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Madison Banas carded a final-round 81 – the best score for a Stag this weekend – to lead the Fairfield University women’s golf team at the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship. Fairfield completed the 54-hole stretch at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in eighth place.

Banas’ 81 slotted her in 24th on the individual leaderboard (86-87-81). She finished one stroke ahead of Danielle Dalessandro (87-86-82), who also carded her best round of the weekend on Sunday with an 82. Jackie Schofield (88-85-91), Taylor Rogers (88-85-93) and Arianna Palmeri (103-100-100) rounded out the quintet of Stags to hit the links this weekend.

Schofield was also lauded this afternoon as a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team. The senior will graduate with a degree in Marketing next month.

The 2017 MAAC Championship went to Quinnipiac, which held off a final-round push by Albany to take the crown by six strokes. The Bobcats were led by MacLeod Trophy winner Alexandra Sazhin, who topped Albany’s Paige Fujihara by two shots with a +15 weekend to earn top individual honors.
