FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Sophomore Courtney Hankins picked up five hits and seven RBI in today's doubleheader against Quinnipiac University, helping the Stags to a split with the Bobcats. The visitors won the opener by a 7-5 score, but Fairfield rebounded with a 9-3 victory in the nightcap which included a seven-run inning.

The Bobcats opened the second game with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning against starter Karisa Hughen, as they strung together three hits around an error in the outfield to plate a pair of runs. Fairfield responded by tying the score in its first at-bat of the game. Angelina McGuire opened the game with a single up the middle, which Amanda Ulzheimer followed with a bunt base hit to put runners on first and second. After Tori Reed's grounder advanced the two runners into scoring position, Hankins laced a single to bring both runners home.

Quinnipiac regained the lead in the third inning when Miranda Magana reached base on a fielder's choice and stole second to put a runner in scoring position. Keala Cordeiro brought the run home with a single to left field to regain the lead at 3-2. After Hughen worked her way out of the inning without further damage, Fairfield's lineup produced seven runs in its half of the inning as the first eight hitters reached base.

Hankins brought home the first run with a bases loaded single as all the runners moved up a base after the base hit. Gianna Kinhofer laced a single down the left field run that chased two more runs home and put runners on first and second. Molly Roche kept the rally going with a base hit to reload the bases, setting up Kristen Ball's two-run double. Alisha Marshall brought home the final run of the inning by slashing a single between shortstop and third base to give the Stags a 9-3 lead.

Hughen made the most of those runs and kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard for the final four innings, earning the complete-game victory. She allowed six hits and one walk in her seven innings of work.

In the first game, Quinnipiac jumped out to a 5-0 lead by scoring in the third, fourth, and fifth innings off starter Destinee Pallotto. The last two Quinnipiac runs were unearned as a misplay in the outfield allowed two runs to cross the plate. The Stags battled back by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Hankins drove a three-double to the left-center field gap that brought home Reed, McGuire, and Sieber.

The Bobcats doubled their lead in the top of the seventh inning courtesy of Becka Drake's two-run homer that made the score 7-3. Fairfield rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with Reed driving an RBI double and Hankins adding an RBI single. But winning pitcher Casey Herzog induced a ground ball from the next batter to end the game.
