Scott Atkin is in the fifth year of his second stint at Fairfield University, serving as an Assistant Director of Sports Medicine.
Atkin first came to Fairfield in 2006 and spent two seasons as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. During that time he worked with the Stags men's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's lacrosse teams.
After completing his first stint at Fairfield, Atkin moved to an assistant athletic trainer position at the University of New Haven. In that position he provided primary medical coverage for the Chargers women's soccer, men's basketball and women's lacrosse teams.
Atkin earned his B.S. in Athletic Training from Marist College in 2006 and went on to earn an M.S. in Human Performance at Southern Connecticut State University in 2009. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) and in 2009 earned his NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification.
A native of Shelton, Conn., Atkin was a four-year member of the Marist swimming and diving teams, competing in the sprint freestyle events. While at the Poughkeepsie, N.Y. school, Atkin worked with local high schools, covering sports such as field hockey, basketball, lacrosse, and field hockey. In the summer of 2004 he volunteered as a member of the Empire State Games Sports Medicine Staff, covering rugby. Atkin also worked the 2003 and 2005 Special Olympics.
