Jhanay Harris joined the Fairfield University development staff in January of 2016 as the Friends of Athletics Group Manager. Harris serves as an annual gifts officer for Fairfield’s 20 varsity and 18 club sports through a portfolio of 275 prospects. In this role, she manages fundraising activities for each program, including marketing, solicitations, stewardship, mailings, telethons and events. Currently she is overseeing the implementation of the university’s first athletics giving website, a platform that will offer sports-specific giving pages, donor features, facility sponsorship opportunities and scholarship information.
Prior to joining Fairfield, Harris served as the Athletics Development Associate at Pace University. At Pace, she managed athletics alumni events and assisted in fundraising initiatives for the department. She built alumni commitment during the main athletics events throughout the calendar year: Pace Golf Classic, Homecoming, Hall of Fame, and the Alumni & Friends Golf Challenge. During her tenure the Setters Club, the fundraising arm of the athletics department saw an increase of 83 percent in revenue from prior years.
Before joining the Setters, Harris spent three years working for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association from 2009-12. Harris served as Account Manager for Insides Sales and later Group Sales. As the team transitioned from New Jersey to Brooklyn, she managed the graphic design and interactive team as Marketing Assistant. She facilitated various email campaigns for various brands, including Brooklyn Nets, Brooklyn Boxing, Brooklyn Family, the Andrea Bocelli ‘US Fall Tour’, Barbra Streisand ‘Barbra Live’ and the Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament. Harris also served as project manager for the Nets Chamber of Commerce which generated business opportunities for Nets season ticket holders and corporate sponsors.
In April 2012, Harris was featured as the cover story in Black Enterprise Magazine, the premier business, investing, and wealth-building resource for African Americans. As an undergraduate athlete, Harris was a four-year member of Central Connecticut State’s women’s basketball team from 2005-09. She was a Northeast Conference All-Rookie Team award winner in 2006 and served as co-captain for three years from 2006-2009.
Harris earned her Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from Central Connecticut State University in May 2009 and received her Master's Degree at Pace University in Public Administration in May 2014.
