FAIRFIELD, Conn. – If one award wasn’t enough to recognize the effort of Fairfield University women’s basketball forward Samantha Cooper after her successful week, the redshirt junior took home another weekly award. The MAAC Player of the Week was also named the National Jesuit Player of the Week for the second time in her career after averaging a double-double and helping the Stags post three wins in their busy week.

“I’m honored to have been recognized by the Jesuit community after our successful 3-0 weekend,” Cooper said. “We’ve been working really hard on and off the court for this season and I’m really excited that the Fairfield and Jesuit communities have recognized our hard work and have been behind us supporting us 100 percent.”

The conference’s leading rebounder hauled in 32 boards over the five day including game-highs against Monmouth (12 rebounds) and Siena (13 rebounds). In the game against Monmouth, Cooper helped the Stags pull off one of the biggest comebacks in program history as the Stags rallied from 18 points down as Cooper’s 3-pointer in the fourth quarter gave the Stags their first lead of the night. Cooper also added 3.3 assists and shot 46 percent from deep (6-for-13) in the busy week.

The Jesuit basketball spotlight is aimed to promote all the Jesuit schools across the country in a nationwide effort to bring greater positive awareness and exposure to Jesuit education and its shared mission.

The Stags are back in action when they open up a four-game road swing at Rider on Saturday at 2pm.
