Women's Lacrosse Opens Season Saturday at Holy Cross

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women’s lacrosse team opens their 2017 spring season on Saturday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m. in Worcester, Mass. against Holy Cross.

Fairfield (0-0) vs. Holy Cross (0-1): The Stags and Crusaders will meet on Saturday for the 15th time in program history. Their last meeting came on March 24, 2015 with Fairfield winning 7-6 in overtime.  

Scouting the Crusaders: Holy Cross is currently 0-1 this season. In their first contest of the season, they dropped to # 17 Boston College 19-8. Senior midfielder Maddie Ward posted two goals, while six other players each scored one. Junior Julia Maloney got the start in cage, posting 13 saves on the day.

MAAC Preseason: The Fairfield women’s lacrosse team was tabbed to finish tied for third in according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Stags tied with Marist with 57 points behind Canisius and Monmouth. The Golden Griffs are the reigning champions and were a unanimous selection to repeat in 2017. In addition to the Preseason Poll, seniors Alex Fehmel and Riley Hellstein were named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.  

Looking Ahead: After Saturday’s matchup, Fairfield will host UConn on Wednesday, February 15 at 3:00 p.m. on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium.
