Stags Challenge UConn and Wagner This Week

 FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women’s tennis team kicks off their week with two matches in the next two days. First, they will head to Storrs on Tuesday to face UConn at 2:30 p.m. and then on Wednesday travel to Wagner for a 2:00 p.m. first serve.

Last time out, the Stags pushed their league record to 2-0 after an impressive 7-0 win over Saint Peter’s in Jersey City. All six singles players won in straight-set fashion, with four of them also competing in doubles play and grabbing a second win.

UConn is 6-8 overall this season, but have won back-to-back matches against Northern Illinois and George Washington. In their win over George Washington, the Huskies grabbed the doubles point after winning at the second and third spots. And in singles action clinched the win after victories by Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva at No. 2, Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph at No. 3, and Zaina Zaki at No. 4.

Wagner sits at 7-5 this season, but is coming off a 6-1 loss to Queens College on March 24. The Seahawks won just two matches against the Knights. Samantha Hodges posted a 6-1, 6-1, 10-4 win at No. 4 singles. And Madison Pautsch teamed up with Brenda Cumpa for an 8-6 victory in No. 3 doubles. Before hosting the Stags on Wednesday, the Seahawks will have an NEC matchup with Mount St. Mary’s on Monday.

After these two matches, Fairfield will play at Seton Hall on Saturday.
