Stags Take On Quinnipiac In Final Road Match

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women’s tennis team will head to Hamden for their final away contest of the season against Quinnipiac on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

The Stags lost a pair of matches last week both by scores of 4-3. On Wednesday, the team fell to Marist and on Thursday dropped to crosstown rival Sacred Heart. Emily Lombardi went a combined 4-0 in her singles and doubles matches for the week. The freshman partnered with Karen McKeough at No. 2 doubles for a 6-4 win over Marist and a 6-1 win against Sacred Heart. In singles action, she posted two straight-set wins at the No. 6. Against Marist she earned a 6-4, 6-3 win and against Sacred Heart, won 6-3, 7-6.

Quinnipiac sits at 4-0 in conference play, the lone unbeaten team in the MAAC. Their last match was on April 12 when they topped Binghamton 6-1. In doubles play, the Bobcats earned the point after winning at the top two spots. And in singles, dropped just one match at No. 1 while the next four positions all posted straight-set wins.

After Tuesday’s match the team will return to the WAC Tennis Courts for their final contest of the regular season. On Saturday, the Stags will take on Siena with the first serve slated for 12:00 p.m. At the conclusion of the regular season, the seeding will be set for the 2017 MAAC Championships which will begin on Saturday, April 29 in West Windsor, N.J.
