FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s tennis team heads to West Windsor, N.J. for the 2017 MAAC Championships this Saturday, April 29. As the fourth seed, the Stags will face top seeded Monmouth in the Semifinals at the Mercer County Tennis Center at 2:00 p.m.

Fairfield finished the regular season with a 4-3 league record. They grabbed wins over Rider, Saint Peter’s, Niagara, and Siena. Heading into their final match of the regular season they were 3-3 and needed a win over Siena to claim their spot in the postseason tournament. In a convincing 7-0 win, the team swept the Saints and locked down the final spot in the playoffs.

For the second straight year, the Stags will face Monmouth in the No. 1 vs. No. 4 semifinal matchup. Last season, Fairfield earned a win at No. 1 doubles from Brad Orban and Ofir Solomon, but the Hawks claimed the doubles point. In singles action, Monmouth secured three more wins to clinch the match 4-0. Back on April 5, Fairfield hosted the Hawks on the WAC Tennis Courts but was swept in a 7-0 loss.

If the Stags can take down No. 1 Monmouth on Saturday they would advance to the Championship Match on Sunday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. to face the winner of No. 2 Marist and No. 3 Quinnipiac.
