FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University baseball team will play two games in the state of New York during the upcoming midweek slate as they travel to Hofstra on Tuesday and NYIT on Wednesday. The Stags, winners of four of their last five contests, will look to extend that streak before they host another conference series during Easter weekend. First pitch in Hempstead, N.Y., is scheduled for 3:30pm on Tuesday and will start play in Old Westbury at 3pm on Wednesday.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags won their fourth-straight series and most importantly their second consecutive MAAC series when they took two out of three games against Manhattan over the weekend. The two wins came in a doubleheader sweep as the Stags used the arms of John Signoreand Gavin Wallacewho both went seven innings in their respective starts. Wallace helped clinch the series victory when he threw his third complete game shutout of the spring, which already ties the program single season record with Keefe Cato and Steve Becker who both recorded three shutouts in 1977 and 1989 respectively.
THE PRIDE SCOUTING REPORT: Hofstra enters the contest with an 8-21 record and is coming off a conference victory against Towson, which snapped a five game losing skid. A Preseason All-CAA selection in 2016, Steven Foster is the offensive leader of the club as he checks into the game with a .324 batting average, which includes 12 multi-hit games. The Pride has shown power during the young season, belting 14 home runs including three apiece from Vito Friscia and Vinnie Costello.
THE BEARS SCOUTING REPORT: The Bears come into the week with a 3-22-1 record and will play fellow MAAC squad Iona on Tuesday. Louis Mele is the team’s leading hitter with a .301 batting average, highlighted by a two-out game-tying RBI single against Siena earlier in the year. Robert Fiato comes in as the team’s leader in the power department with three homers.
UP NEXT: The Stags will return home to host Saint Peter’s during Easter Weekend. The Stags and the Peacocks will play the first game on Friday at noon and conclude with a double header on Saturday at noon.
