FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s and women’s golf teams head south to Lake Buena Vista, Fla. this weekend for the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. The three-day event tees off from Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course beginning Friday morning. Championship Sunday will air live on ESPN3 beginning at 10 a.m.
Fairfield women’s golf will be the first to hit the links as Arianna Palmeri, Madison Banas, Jackie Schofield, Taylor Rogers and Danielle Dalessandro are slated to represent the Stags. Palmeri gets things started for the quintet at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. The freshman trio of Palmeri, Banas and Rogers will be competing in their first MAAC Championship while seniors Schofield and Dalessandro are each playing at their third and fourth conference tournaments, respectively. The Stags placed seventh at the 2016 MAAC Championship.
Fairfield men’s golf will send Thomas Urciuoli, Alex Ferrante, Kevin Duncan, Alex Taylor and Eric Austin out on the course beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday. Austin finished tied for third on the individual leaderboard in 2016, setting the Fairfield pace alongside Duncan, Uricuoli and Ferrante as the Stags shared fifth place. Now a graduate student, Taylor returns to Lake Buena Vista for the first time since winning the MacLeod Trophy as the individual MAAC Champion at Disney’s Palm Golf Course in 2014.
The Fairfield men’s and women’s golf programs are in their first season under the direction of Head Coach Doug Holub.
