Jack Murphy Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Fairfield University senior Jack Murphy was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and the third time this season.

The goalie helped the No. 16/18 Fairfield to a pair of victories last week by posting a 7.00 goals against average with 18 saves (.562), six ground balls, and a caused turnover in 120 minutes. In the Stags’ win over then 11th-ranked UMass, Murphy made 10 saves and held the Minutemen to five goals, including just two in the first half. In Fairfield’s win at Holy Cross, Murphy stopped five shots and picked up four ground balls.

On the season, Murphy has an 8.88 GAA, good for 17th in the nation, with 76 saves through the first eight games. He has stopped 10 or more shots in three games this season, including 15 saves against Stony Brook. He was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Defensive Player last week and earned the first honor of the year on February 24.

For his career at Fairfield, Murphy has made 241 saves which is good for eighth all-time. He is also 23rd among the NCAA Division I Career Active Leaders in saves. He has been named the ECAC Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week six times over the last two seasons.

Fairfield (6-2), winner of four-straight, will open ECAC Lacrosse League play on March 29 at Bellarmine University.
