ORLANDO, Fla. – Sam Daly became the first Stag to crack the top 10 at the MAAC Championship in 20 years, crossing the line with a 10th-place time of 25:19.13 at the 8K conference meet. Daly, who has been the top finisher for Fairfield men’s cross country at the last three MAAC Championships, guided the Stags to a ninth-place team finish.

Daly joins Ian McNeill as the only Stags to rank among the top 10 finishers at the MAAC Championship. McNeill placed eighth in 1995 and fifth in 1996, leading Fairfield to a fourth-place team showing in both seasons. Daly earns All-MAAC recognition in his senior campaign for today’s performance.

In today’s race at Disney’s Wide World of Sports, Daly was followed by his brother Scott Daly in 34th place (26:01.53) in the 137-runner field. Mike Flanagan added a mark of 26:53.39 in his final MAAC Championship run. Sophomores Jordan Dixon (28:15.51) and Mike Bodie (28:23.78) rounded out the five harriers to score for the Stags this morning.

Fairfield’s ninth-place finish with 223 points staked them comfortably ahead of Niagara (308) and Saint Peter’s (365) and 15 points shy of eighth-place Rider (208).

For the 26th consecutive season, Iona won the MAAC Championship. The Gaels took the meet in impressive fashion, posting the meet’s top eight finishers. Kieran Clements led the way with a winning time of 24:38.37. Iona’s top seven harriers all crossed the line within one second of Clements’ pace.

Championship Season continues for Fairfield on Friday, Nov. 11 at the NCAA Northeast Region Championship at famed Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
