Bergen Paces Stags at MAAC Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. – Kaylee Bergen led the way for the Fairfield University women’s cross country team on Saturday morning at the 2016 MAAC Championship. Bergen placed 35th overall in the 6K conference meet to pace the Stags at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

Following Bergen’s mark of 23:09.09 was Stef Vickers, whose mark of 23:26.00 placed her in 46th individually in the 131-runner field. Sami Carey (24:11.59), Sarah Morrissette (24:17.26) and Jacqueline-Ann Willsey (24:19.84) also scored for the Stags this morning.

Fairfield’s ninth-place finish with 244 points slotted them comfortably ahead of Niagara (315) and Saint Peter’s (354) and 30 points short of eighth-place Rider (214).

After being upended for the first time in a decade last fall, Iona returned to the top of the MAAC as 2016 team champions. The Gaels’ 49 points just edged out defending champion Quinnipiac’s aggregate total of 51. Siobhan Quinn of Canisius won the individual title with a time of 21:19.30.

Championship Season continues for Fairfield on Friday, Nov. 11 at the NCAA Northeast Region Championship at famed Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
