Men's Rowing Garners First Place Finishes At Amherst Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. -- The Fairfield University men's rowing team opened the spring season with a quality showing at the Amherst Invitational, posting two first-place finishes and a runner-up finish in the day-long event.
The varsity eight crossed the line first in its race with UConn and Amherst, registering a time of 6:13 in its season debut. UConn was second with a time of 6:24 while the host school collected third in 6:37. The Stags' entry consisted of Lars Erickson, John O'Neil, Mike Clarkson, Will Quentin, Casey Fuller, John Imor, James Mulhall, Greg Coppola, and coxswain Matt Marshall.
The second varsity eight enjoyed similar success by beating out UConn for the gold medal. The Stags concluded its run in 6:18, 10 seconds better than the runner-up Huskies. The Stags' boat was comprised by Mark Soldatic, Charles Cooper, Richard Saganey, Charlie Riordan, Mark Sutter, Jordan Greco, Herbie Marache, Seamus O'Brien, and coxswain Tim Valente.
The day concluded for Fairfield with the novice 4 race which saw the Stags take second place between UConn (8:01) and Mass Maritime (9:48). Fairfield completed the course with a time of 8:17 behind the efforts of Nick Ryan, Matt Daza, Brendan McMahon, Liam Creegan, and coxswain Justin Elderton.
