Young and More Earn Top 10 Finishes on Day Two

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Through two days of action at the 2017 MAAC Championships, the Fairfield University men’s and women’s swimming teams sit in ninth and sixth place, respectively.

The overall leader on the men’s side of action is Rider with 253 total points while the Stags have racked up 75 points. Marist is the overall leader for the women with 279 points, and Fairfield has earned 111 points.

Two Fairfield swimmers qualified for the finals on Day Two. Kelly Cordes qualified for the 500 freestyle B Final and placed 11th overall with a time of 5:14.25. Colleen Young earned a spot in the 200 IM B Final, she placed ninth overall with a personal best time of 2:10.08.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the quartet of Young, Oreoluwa Cherebin, Donna Lam, and Cordes placed sixth with a time of 1:39.38. And in the same event, the men’s team of Justin Touve, Ian Nelson, Nick Adams, and Andrew Tavcar finished in seventh with a time of 1:27.09.

In diving action, the women competed on the 3-meter boards. Kylie More qualified for the A-Final with a Prelims score of 204.85 (Personal Best) and placed eighth overall with a Finals score of 181.50.

In the B-Final, Leah Pawelczyk placed 12th with a Finals score of 185.35 and Jane Rice finished right behind her in 13th with a Finals score of 172.40.

Friday’s action starts with the 400 IM at 10:00 a.m.
