Field Hockey Earns Academic Team Award

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team has been recognized by Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA as a Division I National Academic Team Award recipient as announced Wednesday morning.

The Stags were one 76 squads across the country that earned the recognition after achieving a minimum team GPA of 3.0 during the fall semester of 2016.

At the conclusion of the season, 10 Fairfield student-athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Those student-athletes held an overall GPA of at least 3.20.

On the field, Fairfield posted a 4-2 MAAC record and advanced to the Conference Championship Game for the second straight season. The Stags earned the #2 seed in the MAAC Tournament and topped Bryant 3-2 in the semifinals before losing to #1 Monmouth 3-2 in double overtime in the title game. Eight Stags were also selected to the First and Second All-MAAC Teams, the most in the league.
