LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- The Fairfield University softball showed its ability to score runs and collect hits on Saturday afternoon as the Stags used 26 hits to score 14 runs in their doubleheader sweep of Rider University. The two victories gave Fairfield three conference wins in four outings over the weekend.

Courtney Hankins registered four of her six hits in the opening game, driving a double and a home run in her four plate appearances. Her double started the Stags day in the right way as the two-bagger drove home two runs in the top of the first inning. She came back to the plate in the second inning and promptly sent an RBI single to left field which made the score 3-0. Fairfield added two more runs in the frame, one of which came home on Angelina McGuire's base hit.

In the fourth inning, Hankins posted her fourth RBI of the game with a solo home run, pushing the lead to 6-0. Rider put its only run of the game on the board with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth. Kate Robinson closed out the scoring in the sixth inning when she brought home three runs with a double to left center field, bringing home McGuire, Hankins, and Tori Reed.

After pitching 12 innings yesterday against Monmouth, Destinee Pallotto came back to throw six more innings in the opener to earn her eighth win of the season. She surrendered two hits and struck out eight batters in her six-inning complete game.

Pallotto came back to start the second game and tossed three shutout innings before yielding to Kristen Ball. Ball picked up her first career win by finishing the shutout with four strong innings that included just two hits and two strikeouts.

The offense enjoyed a quick start to the nightcap by recording four hits in the top of the first inning. Hankins brought home the first run with a two-base hit, before Molly Roche chased home two base runners with a triple that provided a 3-0 lead to the Stags. Gianna Kinhofer sent Roche home with an RBI single to complete the first-inning scoring.

The Stags added another run in the second inning as Alisha Marshall stroked a one-out single to start the rally. Hankins finished the inning with a run-scoring double that made the score 5-0. With the runs on the board, Pallotto and Ball kept the lead intact for the rest of the game.
