Stags Open Spring at Bash at the Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Fairfield University men’s golf team opened its spring schedule today with 36 holes at the Bash at the Beach hosted by Appalachian State University. The Stags will enter Tuesday’s final round with a share of 12th place in the 16-team field. Eric Austin and Thomas Urciuoli paced the Stags, each carding a 155 following two rounds on the links.

The Stags are one of four teams to improve from the first round to the second, posting a collective 317 followed by a 314 to round out their 631. Fairfield shares 12th place with Florida A&M, which recorded a 323 and a 308 to earn its two-round score of 631. South Carolina Beaufort tops the team leaderboard with a 580 (289-291). Kevin Murphy led the Sand Sharks on Monday with a 140 (72-68) to share the individual lead with U Minn Woon of Fairleigh Dickinson.

Austin and Urciuoli were consistent in reaching 155 – Austin shot a 78 followed by a 77 today, while Urciuoli carded a 77 and followed up with a 78. Alex Ferrante is right behind them with a 156 (77-79). Kellen Jordan adds a 158 (81-77), Kevin Duncan posted a 162 (81-81) and Alex Taylor finished with a 163 (81-82).

Final round action from the Surf Golf and Beach Club tees off tomorrow morning.
