Stags Host Marist on Tuesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men’s tennis team hosts Marist on Tuesday afternoon on the WAC Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for 3:00 p.m. for the Stags and Red Foxes.

On Sunday, the team improved to 3-1 in MAAC play with a 7-0 win over Niagara. Fairfield was able to win two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Ethan Ammon / Jeffrey Rodgers won their match 6-4 at No. 2 and Dylan Appel / Tyler Shibles won 6-0 at No. 3. In singles action, the Stags swept all six matches in straight sets. Brad Orban picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1. Anthony Caputo earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 2. At No. 3, Rodgers won 6-4, 6-1. In the fourth spot, Ammon grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Appel at No. 5 won 6-1, 6-1. And at No. 6, Shibles won 6-2, 6-0. 

The Stags matched up with Marist on March 11 at the Yale Invitational losing 5-2. The Red Foxes sit at 3-0 in the MAAC with wins over Rider, Quinnipiac, and Niagara. Most recently the team defeated St. Bonaventure on April 9, 4-0. Marist picked up three doubles wins to grab the point. In singles action, the Red Foxes earned wins at No. 1, 3, and 4 to secure the overall team win.

Fairfield will have plenty of rest before their next match on Thursday, April 20 when they head to Hamden to face Quinnipiac.
