Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With Siena

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University tennis teams close out the regular season with Siena on Saturday on the WAC Tennis Courts beginning at noon with the women’s match. The men’s match will follow at approximately 3:00 p.m.
For women’s tennis senior Karen McKeough, Saturday’s match will be her final home contest as a Stag. In her career, she has been a consistent doubles player throughout her four years. She has 26 career wins in doubles action including a 13-8 conference mark. This season she has a 4-1 record against league opponents with partner Emily Lombardi at the No. 2 position.
The women’s side has already clinched a spot in the 2017 MAAC Championships, but could improive their seed by beating Siena on Saturday. The Saints are 4-1 against MAAC opponents this season and are coming off a 6-1 loss to Quinnipiac on April 9. Siena earned a win from No. 1 doubles duo Mitsuki Fukamachi and Ali Garritty. And Rina Sakai grabbed a point with a win at No. 5 singles.
Fairfield’s men’s team has a chance to punch their ticket to the 2017 MAAC Championships with a win over the Saints on Saturday. The Stags currently hold the fourth spot in the conference standings, but need a win to secure their place in the postseason.
Siena posts a 2-3 league mark, but have lost three straight MAAC games and six straight overall. Last season, Fairfield captured a 4-1 win over the Saints on April 16. Brad Orban, Jeffrey Rodgers, and Anthony Caputo all grabbed wins in singles play to lead the team to victory in Watervilet, New York.
The conference tournament kicks off on Saturday, April 29 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey.
