Monmouth Bests Fairfield In Semifinals

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's tennis team ran into top seed Monmouth at the 2017 MAAC Championships Semifinal Round, falling 4-0.

Monmouth came out with a 1-0 lead after doubles action by winning the first two matches. Brad Orban and Anthony Caputo fought hard at No. 1, pushing the Hawks to a 7-5 match. At No. 2, Jeffrey Rodgers and Ethan Ammon fell 6-2, and at the third Dylan Appel and Ethan Ammon's match went unfinished.

The Stags did their best in singles action, pushing Monmouth to their limits. Orban forced a first set tie break, but fell 7-6. And was holding a 3-1 lead in the second before the match was called off. At No. 2, Caputo won the first set and was tied at 5-5 before his match was halted. And in the fourth spot, Ammon was down 3-1 in the third set after capturing the second set. 

The Hawks posted wins at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2), No. 5 (6-3, 6-3), and No. 6 (6-1, 6-3).

Fairfield closes their season at 7-14 overall and 4-3 in the MAAC.
