Women's Tennis Falls in Weekend Matches

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield is heading back home after an 0-2 weekend in Philadelphia. On Saturday night, the Saint Joseph University Hawks topped the Stags 6-1 and on Sunday morning the Drexel University Dragons earned a 5-1 victory over Fairfield.

Against Saint Joseph's, Emily Lombardi earned a three set win for the Stags' only point of the day. At No. 5 singles she posted a 2-6, 6-2, 11-9 victory. The No. 1-4 spots were all swept in staright sets and Meghan Zimmer battled for three sets before falling 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 in the sixth spot. In doubles play, the Hawks earned three victories with scores of 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 respectively. 

On Sunday, the Stags and Dragons only matched up in singles action. Drexel was able to earn five victories on the day, all in straight sets. But for the second day in a row, Lombardi won her singles match. At the No. 5 spot, the freshman grabbed a 6-3, 6-4 win. 

The Stags are back on the courts on Sunday, March 5 at Yale.
