FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team fell short against cross-town rival Sacred Heart on Thursday afternoon, losing 4-3.

The Stags came out and won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2. Nicole Aragones and Sarah Stuhlmann posted a 6-4 win at the top spot. While Emily Lombardi and Karen McKeough earned a quick 6-1 win in the second slot.

But in singles action, Fairfield would be on the wrong end of a couple of three-set matches. Diana Prinos and Jessica Pil each fell in three sets. Prinos grabbed a 6-3 win in the first set, but dropped 6-2, 6-2 in the next two to drop the point. Pil was down after the first set (3-6), but came back to win the second (4-6) before falling 6-1 in the third. Shelby Vertula earned a win in the fifth spot for the Stags, 6-3, 6-1. And Lombardi grabbed a tough 6-3, 7-6 match at No. 6.

Fairfield hits the courts at Quinnipiac next on Tuesday, April 18 at 3:00 p.m.
