FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University women’s basketball forward Samantha Cooper was selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I First Team this afternoon. The redshirt junior has maintained a 3.70 GPA as a biology major while also being a valuable piece on the court.

Off the court, the biology major was named to the Fairfield University Dean’s List and the MAAC All-Academic Team in each year she was eligible. In the future, Cooper says she plans on going to optometry school.

On the court, Cooper leads the conference in rebounding (8.4) and minutes played (37.6). She has been arguably one of the most consistent players on the team, also ranking second on the squad with 2.0 assists per game.

Cooper is one of six players on the District I First Team, joining Sigi Koizar (Maine), Kia Nurse (Connecicut), Erika Steeves (Brown), Lena Munzer (Yale), and Mckenna Maycock (St Bonaventure).

Cooper will now be on the ballot for the Academic All-American award, which will be selected later this month.
