Cobb, a sophomore, set the school scoring record with 46 points as the Stags beat Manhattan on January 5. The guard also tied the school record for most three pointers in a game (9) and equaled the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) single-game scoring record. To close out the month, the Fall River native dropped 20 points in the win over Marist and 22 points in the victory over Manhattan. Cobb has started all 20 games this season and sits second on the team averaging 14.7 points per game. He and the Stags are back on the court Thursday when they welcome Niagara to Webster Bank Arena for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off on ESPN3.
Young, a freshman, also etched her name in the record books when she broke the school record in the 200m breaststroke. She touched the wall in 2:43.25 to beat Lauren Kennedy’s record of 2:43.84 that was set in November of 2009. That same day, she set a new personal best in the 200m IM with a time of 2:30.48. Two days before the meet against Siena, the team topped St. Francis Brooklyn and the Saint Louis native posted a personal best in the 100m backstroke (1:13.23). For the month, Young never finished outside the top five in any individual event, grabbing five first place finishes in three different events. The swimming and diving team will compete for the final time next week at the 2017 MAAC Championships beginning on February 8.
