RICHMOND, Va. – After racking up a career-high four goals for the Fairfield University men’s lacrosse team this past Saturday at No. 15 Yale, Travis Ford has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week. Ford shares the weekly honor with Jeff Trainor of UMass, who had three points at Yale on Tuesday for the Minutemen.

Ford was a major catalyst in the Stags’ rally from an 8-2 second-half deficit to draw even with the Bulldogs before falling in double overtime, 11-10. The freshman scored twice during the third quarter as the Stags trimmed the margin from 8-2 to 9-6 and also potted the man-up goal that cut the deficit to 9-8 early in the fourth frame. Ford also came away with two ground balls.

On the season, Ford ranks second on the Stags behind Colin Burke with nine goals. He has a team-leading three man-up markers and contributed the game-winner in Fairfield’s 8-7 triumph at UMass Lowell on Feb. 28.

Fairfield’s scheduled Wednesday game against Cleveland State has been cancelled due to impending inclement weather. The Stags are slated to return to action on Friday, March 17 at nationally-ranked Penn State at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast to a national television audience on ESPNU and WatchESPN.

The Stags are back on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium next Tuesday, March 21 for a 3 p.m. meeting with NJIT (tickets). The action will be streamed live on FairfieldStags.TV.
