FAIRFIELD, Conn.– Led by a career-high 10 saves from Caleigh O'Connor and a hat trick from Brooke Gallagher the Fairfield University women’s lacrosse team earned a 10-5 win over New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium.
O’Connor earned her second win of the season as she stopped 10 shots, while picking up five groundballs, and causing two turnovers. The Stags' balanced attack on offense was led by Gallagher who recorded her first multi-goal game of her career with three scores from just four total shots. Four more Stags each added two points with Riley Hellstein, Alex Fehmel, and Lily Crager all notching a pair of goals while Scarlett Sulliman registered a goal and an assist. Rounding out the offense, Brenna Connolly and Riley Smith each tallied a helper.
Fairfield took control of the game right from the get go scoring the first four goals of the contest with Crager scoring the first two. The Wildcats got on the board at the 11:42 mark in the first half, but Fairfield tacked on two more before the halftime break from Fehmel and Gallagher for a 6-1 lead.
In the second half with the Stags leading 7-1, New Hampshire got back to back goals from Devan Miller who led the visitors with three goals on the day. But Fairfield then went on a 2-0 run with scores by Gallagher and Fehmel.
With under three minutes to play, goalkeeper Amy White entered the contest with the Stags holding a 9-4 lead. In the final minutes the two sides would trade scores and the home team would hold on for a five goal win.
Next up, the Stags travel to Boston University on Wednesday, March 15 for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff with the Terriers.
