Hellstein Named to All-Region Team

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Senior co-captain Riley Hellstein was named to the IWLCA Second Team All-Region after leading the Stags to the MAAC Championship Game in 2017. The attacker was one of 128 Division I student-athletes honored and her selection to the Northeast Region Team was the first of her career.

Hellstein capped off a tremendous career by winning the 2017 MAAC Offensive Player of Year Award after leading Fairfield in goals (56) and points (73). She was also second on the team with 17 assists and 25 caused turnovers. Among MAAC players, she was second in goals per game (3.29), points per game (4.29), and game-winning goals (4). Across the nation, her goals per game average was 15th best in the country while her points per game ranked tied for 24th.

The attacker finished her career as one of the best scorers to ever don a Stag uniform. She racked up 188 points (3rd in program history), 141 goals (tied for 2nd), while hauling in 170 draw controls, the most all-time. Hellstein also ranks in the program's top 10 in points per game, goals per game, game-winning goals, free position goals, assists, and draw controls per game.

Fairfield as a team finished the season with an overall mark of 12-6 while going 7-1 during the MAAC season. They earned the second seed in the postseason tournament, topping Marist in the semifinal round before falling to Canisius in the Championship Game.
