Women's Rowing Team Selected Fourth In MAAC Coaches Poll

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University women's rowing team was tabbed fourth in the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Poll, gaining 68 points in the rankings. The order was determined by vote of the conference's head coaches.

Jacksonville earned the top spot with 96 points, securing seven of the 10 first-place votes. Marist took second place in the coaches' poll despite not receiving any top votes, earning 86 markers. Canisius collected the other three first-place votes which led to 76 points, eight more than the Stags' total.

Drake was next in line with 63 points to fifth place, followed by Robert Morris with 43 points. The rest of the top 10 included Sacred Heart (38 points), Iona (34 points), Stetson (33 points), and Manhattan (11 points). 

The Stags will open their spring season on March 25 when they row against Smith College. The spring season is highlighted by the Knecht Cup on April 8-9, the Spring Mets on April 29, and the MAAC Championship on May 12 at Mercer Country Park in West Windsor.
