Women's Rowing Finishes Fourth At MAAC Championships

MERCER LAKE, N.J. -- The Fairfield University women's rowing team secured fourth place overall after two Stag crew took third place in their respective grand final at the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships on Saturday.
The varsity 4 and the second varsity 8 crossed the finish line third for the Stags while the varsity 8 netted a fifth-place finish. Fairfield posted 42 points in the event for fourth place, while Jacksonville University (60 points), Marist College (54 points) and Canisius College (45 points) rounded out the top three. The rest of the championship featured Drake University (34 points), Robert Morris University (26 points), Sacred Heart University (23 points), Iona College (18 points), Stetson University (16 points), and Manhattan College (11 points).
The varsity 4 finished the grand final race with a time of 8:53.284 behind the efforts of Melissa Iannucci, Tiffany Iannucci, Chloe Scherpa, Jackie Ozyjowski, and coxswain Katie Unifried. Jacksonville won the event by rowing the course in 8:29.909 followed by Marist's time of 8:22.849.
The second varsity 8 also secured a third-place finish behind the efforts of Shelley Wilson, Laura Miles, Eileen Keenan, Amanda McKenna, Alli Sloan, Cat Clough, Claire Lavelle, Colleen Sheridan, and coxswain Katie Clark. Jacksonville took first place with its time of 7:28.418 with Marist (7:45.884) and Fairfield (7:47.634) next in line.
The varsity 8 ended the day with a fifth-place run which finished the course in 7:48.516. Jacksonville completed its sweep with another top finish at 7:21.190, followed by Marist (7:26.883), Canisius (7:32.886), and Drake (7:38.123).
