Cheerleaders

The Fairfield University Cheerleaders perform at all home women's and men's basketball games both on campus at the 2,500 seat Alumni Hall and at our off-campus home arena, the 10,000 seat Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. The squad also travels with teams to several post season tournaments such as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, The National Invitational Tournament (NIT), and the NCAA Championships.

Cheer Team Requirements and Responsibilities
If chosen for the team, cheerleaders are required to fulfill their responsibilities as a representative of Fairfield University. Practice begins in early September and is complete by the first week of April. Cheerleaders must be willing to give up their Fall, Spring, Winter and Holiday breaks to cover events scheduled by the coaching staff. Events include, but are not limited to men's and women's basketball games, Alumni Association events, community service activities, Athletics Department events and collegiate competitions.

Practices
Practices begin in September and are held three times a week at Alumni Hall on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m. Day and time adjustments may be made to accommodate the performance schedule. Practices include sideline work and our competitive routine. Conditioning and basic skills are always included.

Tryouts
Tryouts for Fairfield University Cheerleading are held twice a year. The main tryouts are in April for the next academic year. The fall tryout is the first week of September. There are no judges, the team is chosen by the coach. Ideal candidates show mastery of basic cheer skills, such as jumps and motions, and demonstrate an ability or potential to excel in stunting and tumbling.
