Dance Team

The Fairfield University Dance Team performs at all home women's and men's basketball games both on campus at the 2,500 seat Alumni Hall and at our off-campus home arena, the 10,000 seat Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport.

Many members of the Dance Team are also members of the Fairfield's Dance Ensemble, a student-run club.

Dance Team Requirements and Responsibilities
The Fairfield Dance Team is a part of spirit on campus, and the main activity is to perform at all home men's and women's basketball games.

At the games, the dance team performs during time outs and does a two-minute half time routine. During the games, the dance team cheers on the Stags from the sidelines. The team also occasionally performs at other on campus events, such as "Relay for Life" and competes at national competitions.

A big part of being on the team is fundraising. Past fundraisers have included working with Yankee Candle, selling magazines, doing online surveys, collecting empty ink cartridges, and selling pizza and other food on campus.

Practices
Practices are usually three nights a week for two hours. Currently, practices are held on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. There are also work out sessions one to two times per week with Fairfield's Strength & Conditioning coordinator in order to maintain optimal fitness. A major part of practice time, however, is devoted to competition performance. Day and time adjustments may be made to accommodate the performance or Dance Ensemble schedules. 
 
Tryouts
Tryouts are held twice a year, in April and September. Two short routines, one lyrical and one hip hop, are taught. Technique that will be judged includes pirouettes, fouettes ala seconde (straight leg), split leap, side leap, and switch leaps. Dancers are encouraged to show additional techniques.
