
Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to Siena 146-101

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.. - The Fairfield University women's swimming and diving team dropped its first contest of the year with a 146-101 loss at Siena College this afternoon. Diver Katie Yee (Bethesda, Md.) was a double-winner for the Stags to highlight the day at the pool.
Yee captured both diving events for the Stags (2-1) as she posted a score of 229.05 in the 1-meter and a mark of 232.45 in the 3-meter.
Fairfield had only two other victories on the day as Siena took nine events. One win came in 100-yard breaststroke as senior Liz Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) took the event with a time of 1:10.80. Rookie Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) picked up a win in the 500 free with a personal best of 5:20.22. Merz also was the runner-up in the 200 free with a personal best of 2:01.58.
Senior Sarah Dent (Muttontown, N.Y.) was the runner-up in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.53 while junior Meghan Carlson (Worcester, Mass.) took third with a personal best of 1:03.38. Carlson was also third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.10.
Freshman Meg Young (Mashpee, Mass.) placed second place in the 1000 free with a personal best of 11:32.82.
Senior Rachel Waldstein (Needham, Mass.) took third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.08.
Senior Jennifer Silvia (Osterville, Mass.) was the runner-up to Yee in the diving events. Silvia notched a score of 220.05 in the 1-meter and a mark of 219.05 in the 3-meter. Hillary Urbancic (Concord, Mass.) was third in the 3-meter with a score of 186.15 and placed fourth in the 1-meter with a mark of 162.70.
Both the Fairfield men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Providence on Nov. 3.
