Stecko Sweeps Diving Events at Harold Anderson Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. -  Fairfield University sophomore Taylor Stecko (South Windsor, Conn.) swept both  men's diving events while several other Stags turned in strong swimming performances at the Harold Anderson Invitational. The two-day event was held at the University of Rhode Island.

Stecko tallied a mark of 222.85 in the 3-meter to capture the event and registered a mark of 227.85 in the 1-meter. Last year, Stecko captured the 3-meter board.

Senior Katie Yee (Bethesda, Md.) placed third on both boards for the women's team. She had a mark of 192.35 in the 1-meter and 187.60 in the 3-meter.

Junior Drew Kingman (Wilton, Conn.) performed well in the waters for the Fairfield men. He was the runner-up in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.51 after he was touched out by Rhode Island's Dan Backner who finished in 2:14.40. Kingman was third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:23.06 and fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.54.

Senior Sean McGonigle (Philadelphia, Pa.) placed fourth in the 1000 free with a time of 10:47.82. He also was fifth in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.93 and sixth in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.53.

Freshman Jonathan O'Connor (Norwalk, Conn.) had a pair of fifth place finishes in the 400 IM with a time of 4:37.65 and in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.44. He was also sixth in the 200 IM with a personal best of 2:10.89.

Sophomore Boris Romanovsky (Marblehead, Mass.) had a trio of personal bests. He clocked a time of 58.09 seconds in the 100 back to finish fifth overall and posted a time of 54.77 seconds in the 100 fly to finish sixth. He was also tenth in the 50 free with a time of 23.21 seconds.

Freshman Charlie Helm (Cheshire, Conn.) registered a fifth place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.39 and a sixth place finish in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:24.86.

Senior Sarah Dent (Muttontown, N.Y.) swam well on the women's side. She placed fourth in the 200 back with a time of 2:16.75. She also was fifth in the 100 back (1:03.99) and seventh in the 200 IM (2:21.08).

Junior Meghan Carlson (Worcester, Mass.) was sixth in the 100 back with a time of 1:04.96 and clocked a time of 2:19.10 in the 200 back to finish eighth.

Rookie Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) notched a seventh place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:23.60. She was also 12th in the 200 free with a time of 2:04.17.

Freshman Sasha Campbell (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and senior Liz Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) each had seventh place finishes in their respective events. Campbell posted a time of 5:00.09 in the 400 IM while Lawlor had a time of 1:11.75 in the 100 breaststroke.

On the boards, rookie Brett Carisio (Cheshire, Conn.) was sixth in the 1-meter (149.15) and seventh in the 3-meter (104.15) on the men's side. For the women, senior Jennifer Silvia (Osterville, Mass.) was fifth in the 1-meter (177.45) and seventh in the 3-meter (168.30). Sophomore Hillary Urbancic (Concord, Mass.) was tenth in both events with a mark of 150.60 in the 1-meter and 127.35 in the 3-meter.

The Stags, who were in action for the first time in almost three weeks, notched fourth place finishes in both the men's and the women's competition. Rhode Island swept both sides while Maine placed second followed by Providence College in third.

Fairfield returns to action next week when it takes on Yale on December 7 in New Haven, Conn.
