Taylor Stecko Named MAAC Diver of the Week

Dec 4, 2007

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University sophomore Taylor Stecko (South Windsor, Conn./East Catholic) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Male Diver of the Week after an impressive outing at the 2007 Harold Anderson Invitational.

At the Invitational at the University of Rhode Island, Stecko captured both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. He successfully defended his three-meter title at the invite by out-performing six other competitors (from the University of Maine and URI) and registering a score more than 23 points higher than the runner-up. The one-meter was a closer competition, but Stecko outranked URI's Logan Pearsall by five points. Stecko's marks were of 222.85 in the three-meter and 227.85 in the one-meter.

Stecko has competed in all six meets for the Stags, sweeping both boards on four occasions. He has won the 3-meter five times and the 1-meter four times.

As a freshman, Stecko qualified for the ECAC Championships placing seventh in the 3-meter and eighth in the 1-meter. Both marked the highest finishes by a Fairfield diver in program history.

The MAAC honor is the first weekly award of the season for both Stecko and Fairfield.

Fairfield (2-3) is back in action on Dec. 7 at it travels to Yale.
