Stags Compete Against Yale and SCSU

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Fairfield swimming and diving team competed against Yale and Southern Connecticut State University on December 7.

On the men's side, Drew Kingman (Wilton, Conn.) captured the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:15.52 beating out Yale's Sam Goldsmith who had a time of 2:15.62. Kingman was third in the 1000 free with a personal best of 10:07.87.

Senior Sean McGonigle (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the runner-up with a time of 5:02.43. He was third in the 200 free with a personal best of 1:49.67.

Sophomore Boris Romanovsky (Marblehead, Mass.) had a pair of fourth place finishes with 100 back with a time of 58.53 seconds and the 200 back with a time of 2:08.28.

Freshman Chad Pfeifer (Darien, Conn.) was the runner-up in the 50 free with a time of 23.05 seconds and in the 100 fly with a time of 59.46 seconds. He also was third in the 100 free with a time of 51.11 seconds.

Freshman Charlie Helm (Cheshire, Conn.) was fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.91. He was also fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:47.19 and in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.81.

For the women, senior Liz Lawlor (North Wales, Pa.) was the runner-up in a very close 100 breaststroke. Lawlor posted a time of 1:11.57 while Yale's Katie French touched in 1:11.24.

Senior Rachel Waldstein (Needham, Mass.) was third in the 100 fly with a time of 1:06.85. Junior Megan Carlson (Worcester, Mass.) was third in the 200 back with a time of 2:18.66 and was fourth in the 200 fly with a 2:30.38. Freshman Sasha Campbell (Old Greenwich, Conn.) was third in the 400 IM with a time of 5:03.60.

Freshman Allie Russoniello (Middletown, N.J.) was fourth in the 200 free with a time of 2:06.52. Senior Sarah Dent (Muttontown, N.Y.) was fourth in the 100 back with a time of 1:04.03 while rookie Katie Merz (Absecon, N.J.) was fourth in the 500 free with a time of 5:26.87.

In the diving events, Katie Yee (Bethesda, Md.) finished third in the women's 1-meter with a score of 198.50 and fifth in the 3-meter with a mark of 185.50. Senior Jennifer Silvia (Osterville, Mass.) was fifth in the 1-meter with a score of 196.55 and seventh in the 3-meter with a score of 185.50. Sophomore Hillary Urbancic (Concord, Mass.) was seventh in the 1-meter with a mark of 146.10 and ninth in the 3-meter with a mark of 149.85.

On the men's side, sophomore Taylor Stecko (South Windsor, Conn.) placed sixth in both events. He posted a mark of 197.55 in the 1-meter followed by a score of 216.45 in the 3-meter. Rookie Brett Carisio (Cheshire, Conn.) was eighth in the 1-meter with a score of 139.45 and ninth in the 3-meter with a score of 130.95.

The women's team returns to the pool tomorrow when it hosts Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. at the RecPlex. Both teams will be off for winter break, returning to action on Jan. 19 against NJIT.
